Laverne Feaster, born on Big Dixie Plantation in 1926, will discuss her childhood spent on this eastern Arkansas cotton plantation during the Great Depression. She will also share her experiences of the private schools of the day. Attending private school allowed Feaster to advance beyond the 8th grade education available in the segregated public school system.
Mosaic Templars Cultural Center presents a lecture and musical performance by international jazz pianist, singer, songwriter, Amina Myers. Well known for her works involving voice choirs, and voice and instrument ensembles, Myers is a native of Blackwell, Ark. and a graduate of Philander Smith College. She was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 2001.

Based on the popular 1850's song, "The Arkansas Traveler" written by Colonel Sanford Faulkner, the play is set in the Arkansas Ozarks. The play leads the audience on a journey through the lore of Arkansas, when a lone traveler comes across an old cabin in the woods and meets an old man and his wife. The traveler is invited to stay and enjoy fiddle music and storytelling, as the old man tells a variety of stories that depict Arkansas' early pioneer history and wild frontier. The Arkansas Children's Theatre will educate and entertain the audience with this story.

The world-famous Harlem Gospel Choir is the most famous gospel choir in America today. It travels the globe, sharing its joy of faith through its music and raising funds for children's charities. Jazz saxophonist Tia Fuller has been on magazine covers, TV shows and was a member of the all-female band of superstar Beyoncé Knowles, with whom she performed for President Obama at the White House. But more than anything Fuller is a gifted and passionate saxophonist, band leader and arranger who has quickly grown from a promising talent into an established name in jazz. During live performances, Fuller is known to give standards a fresh interpretation while showcasing an abundance of her own compositions as well.
The Little Rockers Kids Marathon is an event that gives children, ages 7-12, the opportunity to complete a modified marathon over an extended period of time. Kids complete 25.2 miles prior to race day using the Little Rockers Kids Marathon Training Program, presented by Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Participants have several months to complete the miles on their own or through their school (if their school is officially participating in the program) by either running, jogging or walking. On March 3, 2012, all participants finish their marathon as they run the last mile of the actual course and cross the official Little Rock Marathon finish line.

Lake Ouachita is fortunate enough to be one of the nesting grounds for our national bird, the majestic American Bald Eagle. In early spring they nest around the resort. With the help of Rangers and some other special guests, Mountain Harbor Resort is able to offer a unique experience with these noble birds, as well as some of their feathered friends. Join us weekends in February as we go on scenic viewing tours via party barges, and try to catch a glimpse of these large carnivorous birds at play and at home in their treetop nests. We will also have 'Birds of Prey' presentations at our Marina.

Developed by the Museum of Discovery, "Behind the Masks: Meaning & Material" takes a hands-on interactive look at how masks are used and created throughout the world. Mixing fun and educational activities with masks from the permanent collection of the Museum.
Based on interviews of WWII veterans conducted by the Fort Smith Historical Society, the exhibit features photographs, quotes and memorabilia honoring our veterans. Opening reception November 11, 2011.
As part of the Fort Smith Museum of History’s Veteran’s Day Exhibit, select artifacts from the Bonneville Collection may be viewed December through February 10. Personal journals and military appointments of the famous General recently received conservation treatment funded in part by the Arkansas Humanities Council. The artifacts are now available for short-term exhibition with digital reproductions available for research purposes. View a personal journal containing a letter from the Marquis de Lafayette, a friend of the Bonneville Family as well as military appointments, which trace the career of General Bonneville. The Fort Smith Museum of History is proud to announce the completion of the conservation work on the historically significant documents.

This exhibit explores why Arkansas commemorates its Civil War veterans and will feature artifacts documenting the post-war Confederate and Union veteran reunions in the state. Impressive artifacts include photographs, medals, memorabilia and uniforms. May 2011 through March 2012.

In partnership with the St. Louis Cardinals, this exhibition will feature baseball memorabilia from the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arkansas Travelers, the AA affiliate for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1966-2000.
