Delta: DeWitt

The refuge lies in the floodplain of the White River near where it meets the mighty Mississippi River. It is the largest remaining bottomland hardwood forests in the Mississippi River Valley. The fertile forests and 300 lakes are interlaced with streams, sloughs, and bayous. The result is a haven for a myriad of native wildlife and migratory birds. Admission is free but a refuge user permit is required for hunting, fishing, camping, and ATV use. This extensive preserve offers deer, wild turkey, black bear, alligators, and waterfowl. East Moon Lake, an oxbow is in the south end of the refuge off Ark. 85 between Crumrod and Snow Lake, is tough to find, but well worth the effort. You can bass fish by day and catfish at night, camping in the primitive area (no facilities) at lakeside.
