Overview:
This National Historic Landmark preserves and interprets the state's tallest Native American mounds. Visitor center with exhibits, audio visual theater, archeological research lab. Park interpreters lead two site tours: the 3/4 mile barrier-free trail and the 1.6 mile turf trail. Sustainability efforts include use of recycled paper products; non-consumptive recreational opportunities such as walking, geocaching, bird watching, nature study, and ancient crafts using biodegradable and renewable natural materials; biodiesel usage in maintenance equipment; converts fallen trees into firewood for use as heating fuel; uses green cleaning products exclusively; drip irrigation to conserve water use; grass clippings as natural fertilizer; promotes recycling for visitors and staff
