The Bassmaster Elite Series Ramada Quest began today, one day late, on Bull Shoals Lake. Strong storms hit the Lakeview/Bull Shoals area Wednesday night and early Thursday morning causing B.A.S.S. officials to postpone the start of the tournament.
Gusts of wind close to 30 mph, lightning, rough boating conditions and heavy rains impacted the decision. Some anglers were disappointed because they expected a good bite on Thursday, and would have to turn to different techniques for fishing postfrontal conditions.
Originally scheduled to run Thursday through Sunday, the four days of competition will now extend Friday through Monday. Today and tomorrow, 100 Elite Series pros will compete. On Sunday the field is narrowed to the top 50. Only the top 12 advance to the final round, now set for Monday. The public can come out to watch the afternoon weigh-ins and visit with vendors of fishing gear. Food vendors are on-hand as well.
The third event of the Bassmaster Elite Series season, the Ramada Quest offers a first prize of $100,000 and an instant qualification for the 2014 Bassmaster Classic. All participating anglers earn points toward securing a Bassmaster Classic berth. The top points earner will win the prestigious Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year title at season’s end.
