We’ve received word from our friends in Newport that the 30th annual Portfest Rollin’ on the River Festival, set for June 3-4, has been cancelled.
Below is part of a release that the directors of the event sent out last week:
“It is with deep regret that Portfest directors have been forced to cancel the festival due to high water and flooding. The area has experienced record floods over the past few weeks. The venue at Jacksonport State Park remains flooded with the river on the rise again. An alternate site was secured early last week, and directors were confident the festival could be relocated with no real problems. Unfortunately, the area has received over six inches of additional rain since (last) Friday with more rain expected, and the new location is partially flooded as well. The Portfest directors have considered every possibility and have concluded there is no option but to cancel the festival. Portfest turns 30 this year, and this is only the second time there has been a total cancellation.”
