65th annual Turkey Trot in Yellville This Weekend

The 65th annual Turkey Trot is this weekend, Oct. 8-9 in Yellville, home of the oldest national wild turkey calling contest. It takes place on the courthouse square and includes a parade, quilt show, 5K run, lip sync contest, pizza gobble, art show, food, crafts, live music, pageants, turkey dinner, and a rodeo.

Back in the day, they would drop turkeys from a plane and people would try to catch them. It was considered a big deal – sort of an honor or rite of passage – if you caught one. They don’t drop live turkeys from planes anymore, but they still put on a heck of a festival. And the national wild turkey calling contest is serious business.

The event around the square is free. The pageant and calling contest is $5, and the turkey dinner is $8. Call 870-449-4676 for details.

I’d like a list of winners in the turkey calling contest, most notably the friction calling Part.

I couldn’t find this year’s winner on their website. You might try asking for a list of winners at this site: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Yellville-Arkansas/132190466806327
