Here’s a festival worth supporting, the All-American Weekend Sept. 16-18 at the Pine Mountain Village on U.S. 62 in Eureka Springs. Sponsored by the Eureka Springs Police and Fire Departments, the three-day event benefits Special Olympics. It also provides a full weekend of family fun.
It starts Friday, Sept. 16 with a discounted breakfast buffet and waffle bar from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the 1876 Restaurant. A “Cruise-In” begins at noon. It’s a car show for all vehicles. Judging is at 5 p.m. and winners take home dash plaques, prizes and goodie bags. Put your dancing shoes on for Friday night. The town starts rocking at 8 p.m. with a street dance, and downtown night parade.
All day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you can enjoy carnival rides for kids, and vendors selling all types of things. On Friday and Saturday, live DJs will spin records and give away prizes.
Saturday’s highlight goes straight for your taste buds. There will be an afternoon chili competition, sanctioned by the International Chili Society, and a People’s Choice Chili Cook-off. Prizes will be awarded Saturday night. At 10 a.m. Saturday morning there’s a poker run for all types of vehicles departing from Pine Mountain Village. The entry fee is only $5 and gives you a shot at three cash prizes. First place is $100. Prizes are awarded at 7 p.m. at Pine Mountain Theater, where a show begins at 7:30 p.m. Donations will be taken at the door. You can also enjoy another street dance, and a night parade at 10 p.m.
Sunday concludes with another breakfast buffet, carnival rides and games. There will also be two raffles: a $1 raffle for a handcrafted 12” knife by Master Craftsman Butch Hanby, and a $5 raffle for a large handcrafted cedar chest. Remember that the proceeds raised during the event go to Special Olympics.
