One of the most interesting facets of my job as communications manager is working with
writers from all over the world. Some of them are writing special interest
stories and a couple of them are writing books. Often it can be a publishing company needing photographs for
a textbook or a television station needed video for a project or a news
feature. Last year shortly after
I took this position, a couple, Janie and Wyatt Jones, contacted me needing
photographs for a book they were working on. They came in the office a few times and spent hours sorting
through slides and photographs. We
even worked with them on a few shots we had to track down.
I was excited to receive an email from Janie a couple of
weeks ago informing me that the book was published. I was out of town when a copy of the book arrived. When I returned I discovered that our
communications assistant had been reading it and was sad to hand it over to me.
The book is titled Arkansas Curiosities Quirky characters,
roadside oddities & other offbeat stuff. I thought I knew a lot about Arkansas, but I can tell you
that I learn something new every time I open this book. The stories are short and entertaining
and are organized regionally.
I love discovering new and fun information about The Natural
State. If you are looking for
