Arkansas Derby

Zoie Clift

The last day of live racing in Hot Springs
at Oaklawn is tomorrow! (April16)

A field of 13 is set for the
$1 million Arkansas Derby, the meet’s centerpiece that is run at a distance of 1 1/8 miles. The race
has been a strong prep for the Kentucky Derby in recent history. Calvin Borel (
who has won three Kentucky Derbies on eight mounts) will be riding Elite Alex.
This is his last chance to earn a spot in the May 7 Kentucky Derby.

Arkansas
Derby favorite is The Factor, one of seven horses from California who arrived
in the city earlier this week. The Factor is expected to be a strong favorite in
the full field Saturday under jockey Martin Garcia. Temperatures for tomorrow
