An Arkansas horse won the Arkansas Derby yesterday. Archarcharch( great name!) won the $1 million dollar race at Oaklawn Park with 25-to-1
odds. The victory sends the colt, his owner ( also an Arkansan) and his
trainer ( another Arkansan!) to
the Kentucky Derby on May 7. The Factor, a favorite to win the race, came in at 7th place.
Robert and Val Yagos ( from
Jacksonville) own the horse and his trainer Jinks Fires is from Riverdale.
Fires’ son-in-law Jon Court was the jockey. Court won the Arkansas Derby last
year and becomes the first jockey since Garrett Gomez to win
