First Day Hikes are part of a national health and outdoor awareness movement. Take the entire family to join in with others across Arkansas and the nation who will enjoy the scenic outdoors on New Year’s Day.
The annual event, sponsored by the 50 state park systems throughout the nation, highlights our state parks as providing year round recreation and promoting healthy lifestyles.
The Arkansas State Parks in the eastern section of the state are offering events aimed at getting the entire family outside on 2014’s first day. Cane Creek State Park in Star City, Davidsonville Historic State Park in Pocahontas, Delta Heritage Trail State Park in Helena-West Helena, Jacksonport State Park in Newport, Lake Charles State Park in Powhatan, Lake Chicot State Park in Lake Village, Lake Poinsett State Park in Harrisburg, Mississippi River State Park in Marianna and Village Creek State Park in Wynne are all hosting special First Day Hikes on Jan. 1.
