This weekend I had some amazing locally grown fruits and vegetables from the Arkansas Delta. It made me want to get out and plant a garden…but I decided it was best to leave it to the professionals!
Now is the time to take full advantage of summer’s harvest. At places like Hardin Farms in Grady or Whitton Farms in Tyronza, you can find a huge
array of locally grown vegetables and fruits, literally just picked off the vine. Hardin Farms is offering tomatoes, berries, peaches, cucumbers, mangos, okra, cherries and more. Whitton Farms has beets, peppers, okra, peaches, watermelons, tomatoes and more!
Peebles Farm in Augusta has 60 acres of locally grown watermelons, cantaloupes, sweet corn, and purple hull peas. Gilliam Farms in Judsonia is one of the nation’s largest growers of blackberries…and guess what! It’s blackberry season right now!
Tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, various melons, green beans, peaches, berries,
grapes…all of these are in season right now! And it’s not just in the Arkansas Delta! Wherever you live in The Natural State, get out and take advantage of the farmers markets, U-pick farms or the corner produce stand. Your taste buds will thank you!! And so will your local farmer!
