Did you know that Saturday, May 8 is National Train Day? To celebrate, the Arkansas Missouri Railroad based in Springdale is offering a special all day event. The Arkansas Missouri Railroad Train leaves Seligman, Mo., at 7 a.m. and arrives in Van Buren. Activities in downtown Van Buren include the Old Timers Days Arts and Crafts Festival; Operation Lifesaver presentations; short train rides from Van Buren starting at 11 a.m.; Maintenance Way equipment demos; Boston Mountain National Railway Historical Society model trains; art displays by Dick Hovey and J.P. Bell; a book signing by Radine Trees Nehring (“Journey to Die For”); and locomotives.

The railroad is also offering a Mother’s Day special on Sunday, May 9 where mothers ride for half price on a trip from Springdale to Van Buren beginning at 8 a.m. and from Van Buren to Winslow beginning at 11 a.m.
