Spring break has “sprung” and the kids might be getting a little antsy. I’ve got the perfect solution for a great outdoor activity this weekend!

Lake Chicot State Park in Lake Village is hosting a Youth Fishing Derby this Saturday, April 2. The derby starts at 9 a.m. and runs until noon.

Kids should bring their pole, bait (park staff recommends shiners and worms), and all their fishing skills to the park’s stocked pond.

Parents are welcome to attend…but only the youngsters will be allowed to fish in the derby. Prizes will be given throughout the event and a hot dog lunch will be served to all the derby participants.

For questions, contact the park interpreter, Brian Whitson, at 870-265-5480 or by email at brian.whitson@arkansas.gov.
