Two star-gazing events take place the weekend of Aug. 20-21 at Pinnacle Mountain State Park. A Star Party on Aug. 20 allows you to join amateur astronomers at the visitor center for an evening with the stars and other celestial phenomena. The Central Arkansas Astronomical Society provides telescopes for viewing objects in the night sky as twilight settles in. If cloudy skies prevent observation, an indoor program on astronomy will be presented at 9 p.m. Admission is free; meet at the park visitor center at 11901 Pinnacle Valley Road in west Little Rock.
Sunday, Aug. 21 brings A Star-Gazing Lake Cruise. You will view the stars while cruising aboard the park tour boat on Lake Maumelle near Pinnacle Mountain. A park interpreter serves as pilot and guide to learn about stars, constellations, and satellites in the sky. Advance reservations and payment required of $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12. Meet at the Jolly Roger Marina, 11800 Maumelle Harbor Road. Contact the park for more details on both events by phoning 501-868-5806.
