With a cast of hundreds and live animals, The Great Passion Play is a must-see attraction in Eureka Springs. It begins its 2011 season on Friday, May 6. Performed amid historically accurate stage settings, it brings to life the epic drama surrounding Christ’s last days on earth, death and resurrection.
The two-hour outdoor drama is performed in a 4,100-seat panoramic amphitheater.
The play features state-of-the art sound and lighting effects and original music. The Great Passion Play has been running seasonally for more than 40 years.
The Passion Play grounds also contain the famous seven-stories tall Christ of the Ozarks statue, the Sacred Arts Exhibit, two-hour Living Bible tour, and a Bible Museum displaying more than 6,000 bibles and related items. A gift shop sells Christian gifts and apparel, and pottery made by the potter who performs the Parables of the Potter.
The gift shop opens at 8 a.m. and remains open after the play. The Church in the Grove, a century old house of worship is located on the grounds as well, and is available for wedding ceremonies.
Before the play, the Top of the Mountain Dinner Theater presents the award-winning gospel music of The Texans, with a meal served at 5 p.m.
