Josh Williams at Historic Washington State Park sent news of a pretty cool upcoming event at the
park: Music in the Park: An Evening of American Music. The free events take
place the third Saturday of each month this summer: June 19, July 17, and
August 21
at the 1874 Courthouse lawn from 7:30-9 p.m. The Prairie County
Avengers
string band perform on June 19, showcasing classic pieces from the
mid-nineteenth century, Stephen Foster melodies and songs such as Wait for the
Wagon
. The Hope Melody Boys are scheduled for July 17th. The
sixteen-member Heritage Brass Band from Dallas, Texas will play on August 21.
Dressed in authentic uniforms, they play period music from the Civil War,
Indian Wars, and WWII. Everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs or
blankets as no seating will be provided. Before each performance Williams’
Tavern Restaurant will open at 6 for anyone that wants to grab a bite. There
will  also be a special interpretive presentation on the front
lawn at 7. Music in the Park is supported by a
grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the
Humanities. For more details contact the park at 870-983- 2684.
