Largest U.S. Towboat can be Viewed Traveling along the Arkansas River

MotorVesselMississippi3The Motor Vessel Mississippi is the largest towboat ever built in the United States.  The 241-foot-long boat will be traveling down the Arkansas River, Aug 12-14.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has set up docking stations along the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System for better viewing.  Below is the schedule.

August 12

9:30 a.m.: Fort Smith Riverfront Park

10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.: James W. Trimble Lock and Dam, Barling

2:15 p.m. – 3 p.m.: Ozark-Jeta Taylor Lock and Dam, Ozark

6 a.m. – 6:30 a.m.: Dardanelle Lock and Dam

9:30 a.m. – 10 a.m.: Arthur V. Ormond Park, Morrilton

1 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Toad Suck Lock and Dam, Conway

5:45 p.m. -6:15 p.m.: Murray Lock and Dam, Little Rock

August 14

6 a.m. – 6:30 a.m.: Riverfront Park, North Little Rock

Purpose of the trip is to transport members of the Mississippi River Commission on their second-ever inspection of the McClellan-Kerr waterway.  The first inspection occurred in 2010. Contact Laurie Driver, 501-324-5551, or Laurie.T.Driver@usace.army.mil for more details.
