A few months ago, I got a call from Diane McAdoo with the Marion Chamber of Commerce. Diane told me she had an idea about a community involvement/decorating project and wanted to get my thoughts. She wanted to host a scarecrow competition for residents and businesses alike. I told her I thought it was a great idea.
Since that phone call, residents and businesses in Marion have heeded the call to decorate their community for fall. I was there on Tuesday…and I must say I was so impressed by the community spirit and the downright ingenuity of these folks! So I wanted to share some photos with you all.
Diane’s idea really took off. Over 30 residents and businesses participated, and it’s great to drive through Marion and see all the decorated scarecrows. What a wonderful way to get the community involved and the added benefit of having the town all decorated for fall!
These photos don’t do them justice! The top left photo is the tin man. The second is a postman…and if you look closely, you’ll see a dog scarecrow to the bottom right…trying to bite him! Next is the wonderfully creative swamp monster. And finally, the “blown away” scarecrow. All were done by local businesses. These folks were all so creative…and there were so many others JUST as interesting. If you’re looking for an idea for a community involvement/community pride project, steal Diane’s idea! She won’t mind!
If you’re anywhere near Marion, I encourage you to visit and see some of these creative masterpieces!
