Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Ride Update

Zoie Clift

Well, today is Stage 8 of the Motorcycle Cannonball Run and the last day that the riders are scheduled to ride in Arkansas. An amazing mix of characters has come
together to make this historic event possible and so far the riders are
halfway to their destination point of Santa Monica, California.

The group left
on their way to Fort Smith this morning after spending a day of rest in Hot
Springs
. The Hot Springs Convention Center served as headquarters for the bikes
and many riders took advantage of the rest day to fix any repairs to their
machines and prep them for the next leg of their journey.  The riders will spend the night in Fort
Smith tonight so if you are in town be on the lookout for the ensemble of pre-1916
motorcycles. The group and their support crews will cross into Oklahoma
tomorrow.

The cross-country endurance ride for pre-1916 motorcycles spans 17
days, 11 states and 3,294 miles. Today is Stage 8 so the group is about halfway
through the 16 stage event.  This
afternoon they made a pit stop in Danville and their bikes will be on display
at the Old Fort Harley-Davidson at 6304 South 36th Street in Fort
Smith until around 6 today.  If you
are nearby, swing by and wish the riders well on the rest of the venture.  If you want to keep up with riders as they
continue on their endurance trek, visit here for daily recaps and updated
reports from the road.
