Mountain Valley Spring Co. celebrated its 140th anniversary this year. Known as all natural spring water, each drop originates at a protected natural spring in the community of Mountain Valley outside of Hot Springs. The company dates to 1871 and is a favorite of Presidents, celebrities, and other notables such as famous race horses.
Visitors to Hot Springs National Park can visit the spring for tours on the plant and grounds. The historic Classical Revival styled home of the company ( located at 150 Central Ave.) was built in 1910 and houses a visitor center that features historical exhibits, an antique bottle collection, a Mountain Valley Hall of Fame display and free samples. Sustainability practices include using recycling content in both plastic and glass packaging.
The headquarters building was also placed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Central Avenue Historic District in 1985. Calvin Coolidge was the first American president to serve Mountain Valley Spring Water in the White House. Following a heart attack in 1955, President Dwight Eisenhower drank the water on the advice of his physician. Other notable connoisseurs of the water included Elvis Presley and boxing champion Sugar Ray Robinson. Consumption has not been limited to humans: Thoroughbreds such as Secretariat were trained on this famous spring water. The brand has also made showings in movies and TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy. The company also bottles water for companies like the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League. For more details on the company check out www.mountainvalleyspring.com.
