gardenlogoGarvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs will be offering free admission for National Public Gardens Day May 9. The event takes place each year on the Friday before Mother’s Day, aka an unofficial start of spring.

Visitors must present  this coupon for free admission.

According to Garvan copy, ‘Garvan Woodland Gardens, the University of Arkansas’ botanical garden, is one of eight public, woodland gardens in the country and the only one located on a body of water. Located on the shores of Lake Hamilton, this 210-acre woodland garden contains the Oriental-influenced Garden of the Pine Wind, ranked as the 5th best Japanese Garden in North America, with streams, waterfalls, stone bridges, native and Asian plantings. The Evans Children’s Adventure Garden provides special natural play area just for kids. The Anthony Chapel is a striking glass and wood structure popular for weddings.’

Upcoming exhibits at the Gardens include Mystic Creatures, a topiary display scheduled to begin June 1-August 31. This will be the first exhibit of its kind in Arkansas, highlighting mythical creatures  (like a Fairy Gourdmother)  made of plants. For more details visit garvangardens.org.
