This news was just sent to us from Susan Adkins, Park Interpreter at Lake Ouachita State Park in Mountain Pine. The park is now taking reservations for their new Hike/Camp/Kayak Adventure May 4-5. The adventure is designed for those interested in hiking and kayaking Lake Ouachita.
As for details, participants will hike portions of the Little Blakely Trail on Saturday and arrive at their campsite mid-afternoon. There they will be met by their support barge, which will have their camping and kayaking gear. After setting up camp, they will take a sunset barge cruise and enjoy evening programs by the park interpreters. Participants will then have a Dutch oven dinner and breakfast prepared by park interpreters. During the adventure, park interpreters will demonstrate outdoor skills such as backpacking, camping, Dutch oven cooking and more. Participants can bring their own kayak and camping gear or rent what they need from the park. The group will paddle around five hours on Sunday at a comfortable pace with plenty of breaks. The cost is $60 per person. Kayak rentals are available for $20 and camping gear for $15. Space is limited, so reserve your spot right away if you might be interested.
