One Tank Travels: Playing in the Water in Paragould

We invite you to have “More Fun Per Gallon”  in Arkansas this year. Each day we will be blogging on different Arkansas destinations that can be reached on one tank of gas or less. This is basically every corner of The Natural State. We hope these suggestions help you in planning a trip to remember.

Today’s Trip: Paragould

I’ve wanted to do this blog all summer, and today’s the day!

With the warm temperatures we’ve been having, it’d be a great time to get out and play in the water. And Paragould is a great place to do just that.

I first visited the Paragould Community Center and Water Park in 2008. It’s a wonderful asset not only to the community of Paragould but also to the surrounding area. The facility features basketball courts, racquetball courts, indoor and outdoor walking tracks, an exercise room, an indoor pool, soccer fields, softball fields…and a water park! The first time I saw the water park, I loved it. What a great way to cool off in the summer. There’s the pool, of course, but also a wonderful variety of slides, water features, water “spouts” and much more. But the great thing is that admission doesn’t break the bank. It’s $3 for those 14-years-old and younger and $5 for anyone over 15. Check out their website here

Crowley’s Ridge State Park offers great options for water fun! Head to Lake Ponder, the park’s 3 ½-acre swimming lake, to swim, splash around or spend some time on a pedal boat. You can rent the pedal boats by the hour ($4.50) or by the half-hour ($3.50). You can also rent a fishing boat or canoe and head to nearby Lake Walcott for fun on the water. Bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it. There are also hiking trails and a baseball field. Great interpretive programs are also offered. The Rough Magic Shakespeare Company is presenting “The Tempest” in the park’s outdoor amphitheater over the next two weekends. Learn more about the event by clicking here.

For more ideas of fun things to do, check out the One Tank Travel blog on nearby Jonesboro here.

So fill your tank, grab the family and head to Pargould for the day, the weekend or the entire week! Safe travels!
