Outdoor Ice Skating Begins Saturday in Little Rock

Kerry Kraus

You can experience a rarity in Arkansas beginning Saturday: outdoor ice skating. Even though we do have our share of cold weather, the temperatures seldom get cold enough and stay that way long enough for skating outdoors.

This year ice skating returns to downtown Little Rock after an almost 10 year absence with the

River Market on Ice: Little Rock’s Winter Celebration.

The ice rink is in one of the River Market’s open-air pavilions overlooking Riverfront Park and the Arkansas River from November 20 through January 9. The grand opening celebration is Saturday, November 20 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Scheduled are an official ribbon cutting ceremony, demonstrations by the Diamond Edge Skating Club, music, and an appearance by Radio Disney’s Rockin’ Road Show.

The rink is open daily with an $8 per person admission fee which includes skate rental. Hours are 4 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 20-December 17. From December 18-January 9, hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Special events are planned throughout the season including Shop @ The Market, which features local arts and crafts vendors from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m., November 26 through December 18. Other activities include Movies in the Park on December 22 and 29 at 6 p.m., Holiday Pet Photos, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on December 5, and Free Pictures with Santa and Friends, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on December 12.

There are group discounts, plus space available for corporate and private party rentals. For more information on the River Market on Ice and other Capital City holiday activities, visit www.HolidaysinLittleRock.com
