Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition on Bathhouse Row

Zoie Clift

If you are into art, the unveiling ceremony for the 2011 City of Hot Springs Invitational Sculpture Exhibition is next Friday (April 15)!  Because April marks the
100 year celebration of the National Park, special permission has been
granted  for this year’s exhibit (
this is the sixth year of the Invitational)to be placed in the National Park in front of each of the
seven bathhouses.

As part of the outdoor
exhibit, 14 sculptures have been chosen for display on the lawns of Bathhouse
Row from April 15- August 22.

The sculptures, in bronze,
marble, copper and steel, represent a wide variety of sculptural styles ranging
from figurative to abstract. There will be a chance to meet the artists immediately
following the unveiling at an Artists Reception at 6 at Quapaw Baths and Spa.

 The celebration begins at
5:30 in front of the Superior Bath House with a walking procession led by Master
of Ceremonies, Davis Tillman and musical accompaniment by Kristin Howry
Grant. Moving south among the architecture of the historic bathhouses, the
selected sculptures will be unveiled one by one.

Since 2005 the city has held
an annual sculpture showcase, placing one or more pieces per year in the city’s
permanent collection along the greenway off Broadway Street. This free event is
sponsored by the City of Hot Springs Arts Advisory Committee and is open to the
public. For additional information, please contact Margaret Parris at
