According to a story in the
AP, the much anticipated showdown between Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta at the
Apple Blossom April 9 at Oaklawn is off for now. The news came after Rachel Alexandra
placed second in Saturday’s prep race at the New Orleans Fair Grounds. After the
race, owner Jess Jackson said the horse was not in top form to race in April.

Zenyatta is still scheduled
to run at Oaklawn in April. She won the Grade 1 $250,000 Santa Margarita
Handicap in California at Santa Anita on Saturday to extend her record to
15-for-15.  During her race at Oaklawn, she will attempt to equal Cigar’s ( who in the 1990’s was named Racehorse of the Decade and was inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 2002)  record of 16 consecutive wins.  You can see a replay of
both of Saturday’s races here
