It feels so much like spring that I’ve got camping on my mind. In fact, I’ve already been hinting to the family that I’d like a Dutch oven for Mother’s Day. Hey, it is the state cooking vessel! I’ve had experience cooking in them at Arkansas State Parks programs and at the Becoming An Outdoor Woman program put on by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. My husband and I are determined to camp more this year, and I’m determined to dazzle them with Dutch oven dishes. (Sorry, couldn’t resist the alliteration.)
Anyway, it seems the Corps of Engineers knows we all have spring fever as well. They sent out a press release last week stating that reservations are now being taken for campsites on Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes – just call the National Recreation reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or make them online at http://www.recreation.gov/.
Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes have 14 campgrounds with reservable campsites. You can reserve sites from May 15 through Sept. 15 during the 2012 camping season. All other times of the year the campsites are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
