Solidarity and Hope in Little Rock

Zoie Clift
Local artist Susan Williams stainless
steel sculpture “Solidarity and Hope” is among the 19 pieces of art that has
been unveiled at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock. The
sculpture reflects a movement made by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle
Obama. Williams made 12 of the sculptures of which Michelle Obama owns
one. Williams is a former Little
Rock art teacher and has studied at Loveland Academy of Fine Arts in Colorado
under the direction of world-renowned sculptor EvAngelos Frudakis. She
has also studied at Vaugel Studios, under the instruction of Martine Vaugel, a sculptor based in Paris, France. Williams work has been shown at the
Butler Center and Clinton Library in Little Rock and the Akainyah Art Gallery
in Chicago. The museum hopes to add around 6 works of art a year to the collection.
