For all of us in The Natural State who are storm-weary, here’s some cheerful news. The Little Rock Farmers Market opened yesterday, April 26. The River Market Pavilion downtown is now going to be full of fresh produce, handmade arts and crafts, all-natural beef, pork and organic chicken, every Tuesday and Saturday. Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The market is open through October.
New this year is the Garden Gourmet Second Saturday Chef Series which focuses on learning the tastiest ways to use locally grown food in everyday cooking. The event showcases some of Little Rock’s most celebrated chefs demonstrating how they use fresh, local ingredients. Those attending can sample complimentary bite-sized tastings highlighting seasonal selections while learning more about the market, its specialty farmers, the chefs, and ways to eat and shop locally.
The first demonstration is May 14 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Featured chefs are Capi Peck (middle photo), of Capi’s and Trio’s restaurants, James Meadors, Fat Sam’s Louisiana Café, Scott McGehee, ZaZa’s Fine Salad and Pizza Co., and Donnie Ferneau, of Ferneau Restaurant.
