My all-time favorite summer fruit has to be strawberries (followed closely by watermelon). Thankfully, both crops grow well here in Arkansas. Since watermelons aren’t celebrated until August, it’s nice to know we have strawberries to kick off the season. On May 22, the Argenta Arts District hosts the first Strawberry Foodie Fest from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event features locally grown berries from the members of the Certified Arkansas Farmers Market, who now boast over 140,000 strawberry plants.
A culinary competition highlights creations from area chefs made with local Arkansas strawberries. Their booths will offer unique strawberry dishes for sale. Entries can be all types of desserts and event entrees, as long as strawberries are the primary ingredient. Hopefully there will be some good old favorites, like homemade strawberry shortcake and strawberry ice cream.
The event takes place at the Argenta Market, 521 Main Street in North Little Rock. Additional information is available by calling
