This Saturday ( Nov. 12) is a chance to learn more about the Couchwood Historic District in Hot Springs. The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program’s (AHPP) “Walks Through History” tour will visit Couchwood beginning at 11. Located southeast of Hot Springs on Lake Catherine, Couchwood was established in 1927 to serve as Harvey Couch’s ( 1877-1941) country retreat. Couch was probably best known for his role as founder and president of Arkansas Power and Light Company. He also was a developer of rural telephone systems in southern Arkansas and was the president of the Louisiana and Arkansas Railway.  Couchwood has eight buildings on 170 acres and sits on a peninsula overlooking Lake Catherine. Among the historic resources at Couchwood are four Rustic-style cabins
