You’ll not be bored this weekend if you head to Jacksonville. Three exciting and action-packed events are scheduled so you might want to start your planning now.

School has been in session for at least a week in most if not all of Arkansas. Kids, parents and teachers are all still adjusting, I’m sure. The Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department is helping with the transition with a Back to School Bash, August 26.

On Friday, those ages 13–18, (ID required for 16-18) can join Power 92’s Tre Day to dance the night away. Concessions are available. This annual event is from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. at the Jacksonville Community Center, 5 Municipal Dr. Admission is $2 at the door. More information is available by calling 501-982-0818.

Also on Friday and continuing through Sunday is the Arkansas Hunters Expo, taking place at the Little Rock Expo Center (old Walmart building at 612 JP Wright Loop Road). Special events include a 3D archery challenge, Bwana Jim’s Wildlife Show, trout pond fishing and shooting gallery. Learn about latest in innovation and technology for the hunting and fishing sportsman. Show times: Friday 1-9 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for children 6-12. The Expo Center is located behind McDonald’s at the Little Rock Air Force Base exit.

August 27-28 are the dates for The Battle of Reed’s Bridge Civil War Re-Enactment. In addition to the re-enactment of the skirmish, there is musical entertainment, a Saturday night dance, three sutlers (a person who maintained a store on an army post) and a blacksmith. There is also a second-hand re-enactor store for those wanting to buy and/or sell their equipment. Crafters and food vendors are also on site. The Reed’s Bridge Homestead and Battlesite is on Ark. 161 in Jacksonville. Phone 501-240-8950 for more information. Admission is $5 for ages 13 and up; $2 for ages 6-12, with those younger than age six admitted free.
