World Championship Quartz Crystal Dig

The 24th annual World Championship Quartz Crystal
Dig is October 7-9 in Mount Ida. Participating mines include  Bear Mountain (Fiddler’s Ridge) and
Sweet Surrender.  During the event,
participants choose the mine they want to dig at each day and contestants gets to keep everything they dig. At the end of the event, there is
a judging to see who found the best crystals. The Mount Ida area has been
identified as one of the major deposits of quartz crystal in the state. As host
to the annual competition, the town is known as the Quartz Crystal Capital of
the World.
Also that weekend is
the Quartz, Qulitz, and Crafts Festival (October 8-9) at the Montgomery County Fairground.
This gem and mineral show includes vendors from all over the U.S.  The quilt show features over 200 quilts
in various categories. Each day the best clusters from the World Championship
quartz crystal diggers will also be on display. For more details on either event,

Hi Zoie – We’re planning to take our kids (11 and 9) to a mine to look for some good crystals. What place do you recommend me? We’re going Oct 9,10 and 11. Thank you for your help and time.
