The Mission of the Department of Parks and Tourism is:

  • to provide optimum quality state park recreation facilities conveniently located and in sufficient quantity to meet the needs of all state citizens and visitors;

Benefits

Our Department offers an excellent benefit package including immediate accrual of annual and sick leave, eleven paid holidays, and a contributory retirement plan. Our Department pays the major portion of medical health insurance for full-time employees and offers several medical plans from which to choose. These plans range from an indemnity plan with a PPO option to HMO's.

Other benefits include maternity leave, court and jury duty leave, military leave and a catastrophic illness leave program as well as Family and Medical leave. Employees with our Department may choose to participate in a deferred compensation plan and various options for life insurance, accident insurance, cancer care and intensive care insurance. Employees are also able to participate in the Arkansas Cafeteria Plan which is a program designed to allow an employee to pay for group health and life insurance premiums, dependent day care and out-of-pocket medical care costs tax free. All employees of our Department are also covered under workers' compensation and unemployment insurance.

Deputy Chief Ranger (Park Superintendent I)

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:

This position will be responsible for assisting the Chief Ranger for Arkansas State Parks in all facets of agency law enforcement activities, to include training, background investigations, incident investigation, interpreting and implementing law enforcement policies and procedures, etc. The Deputy Chief will participate in patrol, special investigations, and special events around the state as needed. This position may also serve as the public safety officer for the agency. Statewide travel is required.


Preferred minimum qualifications
: The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, park management, or related field, plus 2 years’ experience as a park ranger or law enforcement officer. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain status as a certified police officer by the AR Law Enforcement Standards Commission in accordance with ACA12-9-106.

Seasonal Park Ranger

Location: Various State Parks Statewide

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:

Several positions available.  These positions are responsible for ensuring the safety of the park visitors and protecting the resources of the park by obtaining voluntary compliance with the laws and park regulations. Other duties include patrolling park property, preventing vandalism or destruction of park facilities, administering first aid, and assisting the public as well as other duties as assigned. This position is subject to 24-hour call.

 

Seasonal Ranger employment is subject to satisfactory completion of an intensive background check and a physical and psychological exam provided at no-charge to the successful applicant. Depending on performance, employment will continue through Labor Day.

 

This position offers paid holidays and retirement credits. Uniforms and law enforcement supplies are provided. Housing and utilities are provided.

 

Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications: the formal education equivalent 
of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, parks and recreation management, or a related field. Ability to
complete the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy. Ability to attend pre-ALETA training for one
week in late December. Applicant must be 21 years of age or older.

Park Office Manager I

Location: Petit Jean State Park, Morrilton, AR

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:

The Office Manager audits invoices, posts and reconciles daily cash receipts, prepares cash reports and bank deposits and compiles information for various reports. Other job duties include assisting in budget preparation, purchasing, monitoring expenses and various payroll duties including new hire and timekeeping and other duties as assigned.  Applicant will be required to work weekends and some holidays. Extensive knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office software is necessary. A driver’s record check and a criminal background check will be performed.

Lodge Sales Director

Location: DeGray Lake Resort State Park, Bimarck, AR

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:

The Lodge Sales Director is responsible for developing and managing an overall sales strategy for a revenue producing facility and will work closely with all park operational units to develop and execute small or large group activities. Job duties include developing sales plans and operational budgets, completing reports, creating and scheduling group activities, overseeing the park’s social media marketing, producing a newsletter, making sales calls, assisting groups with their needs, and performs other duties as assigned. This position supervises a small staff and will complete performance reviews and create schedules as needed. Applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Office products and have superior communication skills. Must be able to work a varied schedule, including weekends and holidays. Frequent travel is required. Must have a valid driver’s license; a driving record check will be performed. A criminal background check is also required.

Job duties vary but areas include maintenance, construction, housekeeping, store clerks, accounting clerks, waitstaff, cooks, and office/clerical support.

Work hours vary (from 15 up to 40 hours or more per week) as do work schedules (weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evening work).
