The Mission of the Department of Parks and Tourism is:

Benefits

Our Department offers an excellent benefit package including immediate accrual of annual and sick leave, eleven paid holidays, and a contributory retirement plan. Our Department pays the major portion of medical health insurance for full-time employees and offers several medical plans from which to choose. These plans range from an indemnity plan with a PPO option to HMO's.

Other benefits include maternity leave, court and jury duty leave, military leave and a catastrophic illness leave program as well as Family and Medical leave. Employees with our Department may choose to participate in a deferred compensation plan and various options for life insurance, accident insurance, cancer care and intensive care insurance. Employees are also able to participate in the Arkansas Cafeteria Plan which is a program designed to allow an employee to pay for group health and life insurance premiums, dependent day care and out-of-pocket medical care costs tax free. All employees of our Department are also covered under workers' compensation and unemployment insurance.

Food Preparation Supervisor

Location: Historic Washington State Park, Washington, AR

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:
This position provides daily supervision to food service workers. Assists in the preparation of food orders and oversees temperature controls, portion controls, presentation, and food rotation. Inspects supplies, equipment, and storage areas for temperature and sanitation requirements.  Assists with menu planning and food and supply orders.  Assists in taking inventories; maintains records on food cost, food waste, and dish breakage. Performs other duties as assigned.


Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications:  The formal educational equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of experience in restaurant management or a related field, including two years of cooking experience and two years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.  Accounting/Bookkeeping experience is preferred. Assitant Lodge Sales Director

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:
 
This position is responsible for promoting the park to school groups, tour groups and the public in general, acting as a coordinator for the many groups that visit the park to ensure a flawless visitor experience.  Job duties include scheduling groups (school groups, bus tours, scout groups, church groups, media, etc.), working in close coordination with other park staff and facilities, working travel shows to promote the park, writing press releases and working with representatives in the tourism industry.  Communication skills, both written and oral, as well as the ability to coordinate multiple activities at once with close attention to detail are a must.

Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications:  the formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of experience in event planning, public relations, communications, sales or hotel/motel management, or a related field. Non-qualified individuals need not apply. 


Housekeeper

This position works under the direct supervision of the executive housekeeper and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of park facilities and taking inventory of linens and supplies.  Main duties are cleaning lodge rooms and cabins after guests.  Other job duties include dusting furniture and fixtures, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, buffing floors, emptying trash, and other duties as assigned.  Applicant must be able to work a varied schedule, including weekends, evenings and holidays.  A criminal background check and a driver’s record check are required.

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:
 
The buyer is responsible for processing requisitions to procure goods and services for the department as needed via open market purchases, written quote bids, competitive sealed bids, state or departmental term contracts, etc. This position develops bid specifications, issues bid requests, analyzes bids, recommends contract awards and administers contracts for commodities and services.  The buyer provides technical assistance to employees.   The ideal candidate will possess the ability to develop, interpret, and analyze specifications and contract terms for a wide variety of products and services and will also have a proven proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excellent communication skills, customer service skills, and organizational skills are also a must.

Applicants must meet or exceed these qualifications: the formal education of a high school diploma, PLUS two years of experience in merchandising or a related field, including one year in purchasing. Preference will be given to applicants with two years’ experience in buying and two years advanced training in accounting, economics, statistics, purchasing, or a related field. Administrative Specialist II

This position offers support to a staff of ten in the Park Operations Section.  Job duties include maintaining spreadsheets and databases, preparing and distributing correspondence, status reports, memos, forms, statistical reports, and specifications, maintaining time and leave records, auditing vehicle reports, performing procurement functions, answering telephones, routing mail, and handling sensitive information requiring strict confidentiality.  Previous experience with Microsoft Office software required; experience with AASIS preferred.

Many state parks, museums, and tourist information centers are hiring seasonal employees now.

WE HAVE MANY SEASONAL JOBS!

Job duties vary but areas include maintenance, construction, housekeeping, store clerks, accounting clerks, waitstaff, cooks, and office/clerical support.

Work hours vary (from 15 up to 40 hours or more per week) as do work schedules (weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evening work).
