Benefits

Our Department offers an excellent benefit package including immediate accrual of annual and sick leave, eleven paid holidays, and a contributory retirement plan. Our Department pays the major portion of medical health insurance for full-time employees and offers several medical plans from which to choose. These plans range from an indemnity plan with a PPO option to HMO's.

Other benefits include maternity leave, court and jury duty leave, military leave and a catastrophic illness leave program as well as Family and Medical leave. Employees with our Department may choose to participate in a deferred compensation plan and various options for life insurance, accident insurance, cancer care and intensive care insurance. Employees are also able to participate in the Arkansas Cafeteria Plan which is a program designed to allow an employee to pay for group health and life insurance premiums, dependent day care and out-of-pocket medical care costs tax free. All employees of our Department are also covered under workers' compensation and unemployment insurance.

Maintenance Assistant

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:
This position is responsible for general maintenance of a 2,700-acre park.  Applicant must have experience with mowers, weed-eaters, tractors, and chainsaws.  Also must have general experience in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical.  Duties include trail work; trash pick up; cleaning restrooms; mowing; tree/brush removal; log splitting; general landscaping; plumbing & electrical repair; and vehicle & equipment maintenance.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds and traverse rough terrain on foot.  This position will act as crew leader to seasonal personnel.  The position works a varied schedule including weekends and holidays.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Must be able to work weekends and holidays.

Food Preparation Supervisor

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:
This position provides daily supervision to food service workers. Assists in the preparation of food orders and oversees temperature controls, portion controls, presentation, and food rotation. Checks the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are met. Inspects supplies, equipment, and storage areas for temperature and sanitation requirements, and inspects work areas to ensure conformance to established standards. Assists Manager with menu planning and food and supply orders. Manages inventory by checking the quantity and quality of received products; rotating supplies, and altering menu to cut down on food waste. Assists in taking inventories; maintains records on food cost, food waste, and dish breakage. Public Information Manager

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:
The Tourism Division of the Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism is seeking an experienced and creative Communications Manager.  The ideal candidate will possess strong writing, editing, and communications skills; have experience dealing with travel journalists, photographers, editors, and publishers; display a clear familiarity with Internet marketing, to include coordination of improvements to our website; an understanding of website file structures; a basic understanding of data bases as applied to the Internet; a working knowledge of HTML coding, understand the importance of establishing close ties with media contacts; demonstrate an ability to direct ad agency work on media events; be able to effectively represent the Department at various functions; and exhibit an outgoing personality eager to work with others.  This position supervises a staff of seven, including travel writers, photographers and clerical support.  Other duties include planning and assigning work, evaluating job performances, monitoring section’s budget, and preparing and delivering speeches and presentations.   Must have advanced experience in social networking practices.  Some travel can be expected, mostly in-state.

Park Office Manager I

This position manages the bookkeeping and administrative support functions of the State Park.  The Office Manager audits invoices, reconciles cash receipt reports, prepares bank deposits, compiles information for various reports, issues purchase orders, completes personnel documents, and maintains files, time sheets, and leave records.  Other duties include acting as an administrative assistant for the Park Superintendent, serving on the park’s emergency response team, managing the park’s Gift Shop operations, and other duties as assigned.  This position has frequent contact with the public and park staff, so good communication skills is necessary.  Knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office is required, and knowledge of AASIS is preferred.  Applicant may be required to work on weekends and holidays on occasion.  Criminal background check required.

Park Ranger

The Park Ranger is responsible for ensuring the safety of the park and its visitors by obtaining compliance with laws and regulations and is a vital member of the park’s management staff.  Duties include patrolling, having an active role in the park’s Search and Rescue Team, administering first aid, giving interpretive programs, assisting with budget preparations and supervising several staff members. The Park Ranger is subject to 24-hour call, must be able to traverse rough terrain, work a varied shift including weekends, nights, and holidays and is required to carry a firearm while on duty.

Maintenance Specialist

This position performs general maintenance on grounds, facilities, and equipment. Job duties include carpentry, electrical and plumbing repairs, painting, trash pick-up, mowing, weed trimming, and cleaning facilities. This position also operates commercial landscaping equipment, maintains equipment inventories, performs vehicle maintenance tasks, and completes equipment maintenance records. Position will operate as a park certified chainsaw operator and waste water facility operator. If the applicant does not have a waste water license, they must be able to complete the licensing process to achieve a Class I, although Class II is preferred. If the applicant does not have a chainsaw operator’s certificate, they must be able to complete the licensing process within the first year. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, be able to traverse rough terrain, be able to lift up to 75 lbs., and work a varied schedule, including some weekends and holidays.  A driving record check will be performed.
