The Mission of the Department of Parks and Tourism is:

Benefits

Our Department offers an excellent benefit package including immediate accrual of annual and sick leave, eleven paid holidays, and a noncontributory retirement plan. Our Department pays the major portion of medical health insurance for full-time employees and offers several medical plans from which to choose. These plans range from an indemnity plan with a PPO option to HMO's.

Other benefits include maternity leave, court and jury duty leave, military leave and a catastrophic illness leave program as well as Family and Medical leave. Employees with our Department may choose to participate in a deferred compensation plan and various options for life insurance, accident insurance, cancer care and intensive care insurance. Employees are also able to participate in the Arkansas Cafeteria Plan which is a program designed to allow an employee to pay for group health and life insurance premiums, dependent day care and out-of-pocket medical care costs tax free. All employees of our Department are also covered under workers' compensation and unemployment insurance.

Park Tech II / Tour Guide (Historic Washington)

This position is responsible for guiding visitors on walking tours through historic buildings, maintaining and utilizing historical equipment and artifacts, disseminating information through informal talks and presentations and acting as a first contact person. Job duties include preparing and presenting guided programs for the public, demonstrating historic equipment, occasionally supervising seasonal employees, conducting and assisting other employees with research, developing historic characters, attending training workshops, and other duties as assigned. Must be able to traverse rough terrain, work a varied shift including weekends, holidays and some nights, must possess a valid driver’s license. Park Administrative Support Coordinator (Lake Frierson)

Administrative Assistant II (Tourism Research)

The Tourism Division of the Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism is seeking an aggressive and creative Communications Manager. The ideal candidate will: possess strong writing and communications skills; have experience dealing with travel journalists, photographers, editors, and publishers; display a clear familiarity with Internet marketing, to include coordination of improvements to our Website; an understanding of Website file structures; a basic understanding of data bases as applied to the Internet; a working knowledge of HTML coding, understand the importance of establishing close ties with media contacts; demonstrate an ability to direct ad agency work on media events; be able to effectively represent the Department at various functions; and exhibit an outgoing personality eager to work with others. This position directs and manages the operation of a 125-seat restaurant and a 195-seat banquet area/convention center. Applicant will supervise the work of a medium-sized service staff by interviewing applicants, making hire or termination decisions, assigning and reviewing work, training, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Other job duties include coordinating facility activities with other departments and the general public, making special arrangements for customers upon request, and providing information to customers and the general public on facility services and functions.
