Charity Hope Valentine is a true original, eternal optimist who loves too much, and she is the unluckiest romantic in New York City. Sweet Charity is a tender, poignant and consistently funny look at her adventures and misadventures, as she never fails to give her heart, and her earnings, to the wrong man. The wonderful score by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields includes hits such as “Hey, Big Spender,” “Rhythm of Life,” “I’m A Brass Band,” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now.” Thanks to Neil Simon who wrote the very funny book and Bob Fosse’s direction and choreography, the original production in 1966 won five Tony Awards. In 1969 it was adapted into a motion picture with Shirley MacLaine.
