The Tradition Continues at War Eagle Mill

The Crafts Fair of All Crafts Fairs Runs October 13th-16th

Rogers, Ark – October 10, 2011 – War Eagle Mill will host its annual fall arts and crafts fair October 13th-16th. Commonly known as War Eagle Weekend, this annual event fills Northwest Arkansas with craftsmen, collectors, and fair enthusiasts. Considered the original crafts fair in Northwest Arkansas, the famous event is now comprised of three shows that have grown into one large extravaganza: War Eagle Mill Crafts Fair, the Sharp Show at War Eagle, and War Eagle Fair.

There are several new artists this year’s War Eagle Mill Arts and Crafts Fair, but there are some who have been around for many years. One of these artists is prolific wood sculptor Peter Engler. Engler can be found every year under the awning at War Eagle Mill, making his original wood sculptures and ornaments that have gained national notoriety. Each year, he designs an original, limited edition Christmas ornament made specifically for the War Eagle Mill Arts and Crafts Fair, which sellout quickly.

Of course, not everything sold at the fair is for viewing only. Some items are meant to be eaten, like the famous peanut brittle found just off the Mill’s front porch. Rogers First United Pentecostal Church began selling peanut brittle at War Eagle in 1967 and have been adjacent to the Mill’s front porch for nearly 40 years. The general manager of War Eagle Mill, Doug Walsh, said that they get several calls each year from people requesting the recipe. Walsh added, “Their recipe remains a secret, but I’m happy to share my grandfather’s as a consolation.”

Finally, every fair needs a little music. War Eagle Mill will host original musical acts throughout the weekend on its front porch. This year’s music features local Zydeco band Snake Eyes and the Bug Band on Thursday, Oklahoma bluegrass band SpringStreet on Friday and Saturday, and local bluegrass band Shout Lulu on Sunday.

War Eagle Mill opens for breakfast at 6:30 AM. Booths are open from 8 AM to 5:30 PM, Thursday through Saturday, and 8 am to 4:30 PM on Sunday. For more information or directions, visit wareaglemill.com or call 866-492-7324 x310.

War Eagle Mill grinds organic grain daily and features a large variety of baking mixes with two floors of specialty food items, regional art, and cooking gadgets. War Eagle Mill is located at 11045 War Eagle Road about ten miles east of Springdale and Rogers, Ark., between Highways 412 and 12.
