The Mission of the Department of Parks and Tourism is:

  • to provide optimum quality state park recreation facilities conveniently located and in sufficient quantity to meet the needs of all state citizens and visitors;
  • to provide adequate facilities and skilled leadership for developing and safeguarding natural resources;
  • to enhance the economic impact of tourism in the state and increase the state's tax base;
  • to collect, preserve, and make available for public use historical items and resource materials;

Benefits

Our Department offers an excellent benefit package including immediate accrual of annual and sick leave, eleven paid holidays, and a contributory retirement plan. Our Department pays the major portion of medical health insurance for full-time employees and offers several medical plans from which to choose. These plans range from an indemnity plan with a PPO option to HMO's.

Other benefits include maternity leave, court and jury duty leave, military leave and a catastrophic illness leave program as well as Family and Medical leave. Employees with our Department may choose to participate in a deferred compensation plan and various options for life insurance, accident insurance, cancer care and intensive care insurance. Employees are also able to participate in the Arkansas Cafeteria Plan which is a program designed to allow an employee to pay for group health and life insurance premiums, dependent day care and out-of-pocket medical care costs tax free. All employees of our Department are also covered under workers' compensation and unemployment insurance.

Welcome Center Manager I

Location: Arkansas Welcome Center, El Dorado, AR

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:

This position oversees the daily operation of an Arkansas Welcome Center.  Job duties include supervising full-time employees, becoming knowledgeable about Arkansas attractions, events, and other facts of interest to visitors, and maintaining monthly timesheets, petty cash records and visitation reports. Applicant will also give presentations to civic groups and schools and attend out-of-town conferences, meetings, workshops, and familiarization tours. Experience with Microsoft Office software is highly desirable. Applicant must maintain certification to perform adult and child CPR/First Aid (training provided), wear the uniform provided, be able to move up to 50 pounds, occasionally travel overnight, and must be available to work some weekends and holidays. A criminal background check is required.

Welcome Center Assistant Manager

Location: Arkansas Welcome Center, Helena-West Helena, AR

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:

This position greets and provides travel information to visitors, maps routes for tourists, and provides weather information. Job duties include ordering literature, maintaining the literature logbook, and stocking brochures in literature racks.  Applicant will attend in-state familiarization tours, may attend out-of-state travel shows, enters daily visitation data into computer to generate monthly reports, and acts as supervisor in supervisor’s absence. Applicant must maintain certification to perform adult and child CPR/First Aid (training provided), wear the uniform provided, be able to move up to 50 pounds, and must be available to work weekends and some holidays.

Maintenance Technician (Mt. Magazine)

This position oversees the maintenance and operations of park facilities and equipment. Job duties include developing preventive maintenance schedules, performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks in carpentry, plumbing, electric, and equipment repair, and supervising, training and disciplining regular and seasonal employees.  Other responsibilities include maintaining records, preparing reports such as vehicle reports and employee performance appraisals, operating and maintaining water and waste water treatment facilities, indoor swimming pools, spa and hot tubs, operating heavy equipment such as tractors, backhoes, mowers, and other duties as assigned.  Must have a valid driver’s license.
