The Communications Section maintains an influential presence within the social networking and media scene. Arkansas tourism is found on social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn. VisitMyArkansas.com, a social networking hub, features blogs written by the section writers on events, attractions, restaurants, activities and other Arkansas tourism subjects. Through this platform, the public can access Arkansas tourism’s social networking sites and ask questions about Arkansas travel. Also, VisitMyArkansas.com has several video podcasts including each staff writer's description of the area she represents. Later installments include interviews with Kris Allen and Sonny Burgess and feature tales along the Rock ’N’ Roll Highway. In addition, a series of audio releases designed for Arkansas radio stations are also located on this site.
In 2010, Arkansas became the first state to launch a tourism iPhone application. This mobile tool provides iPhone users with on-the-go access to Hot Deals and Packages offered by tourism partners. Coupons, special deals and packages become searchable with a “near me” function that provides visitors with dining, lodging and attraction information in Arkansas. Consumers are able to download discounts using their iPhones. This application is both an exciting and beneficial tool for industry partners.
Also in 2010, Arkansas tourism embraced geolocation marketing, and Arkansas became the first and currently only state to have branded trips and customized badges on Gowalla.
Arkansas was one of the first locations to receive a designated page on TripAdvisor.com. This page provides links to Arkansas.com and displays photos, information and reviews about Arkansas travel opportunities and attractions.
