Black River

Lakes / Rivers:

The Black is one of five rivers found in the Randolph County area.

Black River is formed by three smaller streams in southeast Missouri, then flows into Arkansas northeast of Corning. Major recreational areas include the Dave Donaldson-Black River Wildlife Management Area (WMA), between Corning and Pocahontas, and Shirey Bay-Rainey Brake WMA, east of the Strawberry community in Lawrence County. Fishing, duck hunting and wildlife watching are popular in both preserves. Access to the river is possible from Peach Orchard, Reyno, Lynn and Saffell. Also, Old Davidsonville State Park along Ark. 166, between Pocahontas and Black Rock, offers a free launch for boaters. Bass are targets on the upper sections of the stream, while catfish are popular on the final sections. Stream-running walleye are also found in the Black. After flowing across four counties, the Black enters White River at Jacksonport. Contact Old Davidsonville State Park at (870) 892-4708.
