A museum, an education center, a community center, a heritage and culture center, the Center preserve nearly 200 years of African American history in Randolph County, Arkansas. Through photographs, displays, books and the spoken memories of the people who grew up around the old building and now care for it, the Center works to tell the story of the African American past in the county, preserving that heritage for future generations of the local African American community and the county as a whole. Housed in the former St. Mary's Church/Pocahontas Colored School, an unadorned, one-room frame building built in 1919 and named for "Miss Eddie Mae" who taught at the school for the African American children who attended between the years of 1948-1965.
