Hi,
April in Arkansas brings Spring in all its glory.  Blossoming bushes and trees combined with wildflowers along Arkansas’s highways are showing off their gorgeous colors. Warm days and cool nights make you want to get out and go. There’s a lot to do this month: large and small community festivals, concerts, and enjoying the fruit of the vine. This is an exceptional time of year for bicycling and motorcycling the roads of The Natural State. History comes in many different events, ranging from depicting Arkansas in the 1780s and honoring veterans to Civil War encampments and mountain men of the 1800s.

The haunting sounds of bagpipes will echo throughout Batesville during the annual Arkansas Scottish Festival. If gems and minerals are your area of interest, then make note of the Northwest Arkansas Gem and Mineral Show in Siloam Springs. The venerable country and gospel group, The Oak Ridge Boys, perform in Conway. Festivals in Star City and Fordyce celebrate their heritages while Chateau Aux Arc Vineyard and Winery has a day of honoring spring blooms and wine.

The beauty of Southeast Arkansas is showcased during a Bicycle Ride Around Arkansas. Fayetteville’s Drake Field is where the Iron Pig festival takes place. Birds and blossoms are in abundance at Lake Catherine State Park in Hot Springs. The wildflowers of Petit Jean Mountain are the focus of a weekend of activities. National Astronomy Day is highlighted at Pinnacle Mountain State Park in Little Rock. Learn survival skills at Davidsonville Historic State Park.

History events in April span time from the 1780s at White Oak Lake State Park to frontier Arkansas in Fort Smith and Woolly Hollow State Park. The War Between the States is commemorated at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park, DeValls Bluff and the Arkansas Historical Association’s 71st annual conference. Powhatan Historic State Park has an event just for women who’d like to learn about mid-19th century life in Arkansas.

April is picture perfect for motorcyclists. Historic downtown Helena welcomes “hogs” with open arms during the Wild Hog Motorcycle Rally and Musicfest. The pioneer Southwest Trail in Arkansas is traced in the Arkansas Heritage Trails brochure and is just right for cyclists wanting to explore. Arkansas’s scenic highways are abloom thanks to the Highway and Transportation Department’s Wildflower Program. Plan ahead for two events coming up in June: Bikes, Babes and Bling in Fayetteville and Van Buren’s Old Town Bike Show.
