Generally, you will find the campgrounds developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers oriented to water sports activities. They are open, park-like areas with fresh water and central rest rooms. Almost all Corps sites provide boat launching ramps.

The National Forest campgrounds are usually more rustic. They emphasize privacy with individual Arkansas camping sites divided by green belts. The Forest Service campgrounds are usually developed around a geographic attraction and care has been taken to see that Arkansas campgrounds blend into the surrounding terrain. Rest room facilities are more primitive in the National Forests, and at some sites it is necessary to bring your own water.

Arkansas State Parks are scattered throughout the state and offer the complete range of scenic attractions available between its borders. Many state park sites offer modern conveniences to campers such as hot-water showers.
