BREAKING NEWS: All campgrounds at Lakes Ouachita, Greeson, and DeGray are open as of March 1, 2008 with modified services. Learn more.

Beginning in the early 1940s, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed dams on numerous tributaries of the Mississippi River in Arkansas. The resulting large lakes brought vast new stretches of open water that altered the state's scenery and expanded its recreational opportunities.

Today, Corps' recreation areas on those lakes offer ready access to a variety of camping, fishing, boating, sailing, water-skiing, swimming, scuba diving, bird watching, hiking and hunting opportunities. Corps of Engineers camping facilities range from primitive to paved pads with full hook-ups and hot showers available.

User's fees are charged at many locations, in some cases throughout the year and at others only during the recreation season. Reservations for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds can be made through the National Recreation Reservation System at www.ReserveUSA.com or by phone toll free at (877) 444-6777.
