Location: This phase is 3.6-miles of downhill grades beginning at the picnic area atop Hickory Nut Mountain.

Description: This newly completed section officially opens in April 2009. The trail follows the south side of the mountain along the top of a large rock bluff before dropping onto an old logging road that parallels Hickory Nut Creek. This portion of the trail offers beautiful views of the valley south of the mountain as well as multiple waterfalls and cascades all along the creek. The trail termination and take out spot is at the junction of FS Roads 47 and 47A.
