One of Central Arkansas’s most popular motorcycle routes
While this wonderful Central Arkansas ride has been dubbed the Pinnacle Mountain Loop, it could also rightly be called the Greers Ferry Lake ride, too. Its proximity to Little Rock makes it a great option if you’re looking for motorcycle vacation ideas in the Central Arkansas area. Before I-40, AR 10 was a primary travel route west from Little Rock to the Fort Smith area. But today, AR 10 is relegated to a higher purpose, at least for motorcycling enthusiasts – a pleasant ride along the Ouachita foothills and through the Petit Jean River Valley.
AR 10 east winds its way through heavy forests, although it is still mostly flat. Since Pinnacle Mountain State Park is visible high above the terrain, it has become a popular destination for hiking and picnicking trips. Pinnacle Mountain State Park is situated on AR 300 just off AR 10/Cantrell Road. Past the park, AR 300 is a very serpentine route into the Ouachita foothills, joining up with AR 9.
At Perryville, AR 9 splits from AR 10 and enters the Arkansas River Valley, crossing the river near Morrilton before beginning its ascent into the Ozarks. AR 92 continues the climb up through pastureland and dense woodlands into the Ozarks (where you can find even more motorcycle vacation ideas). The road is winding and not technically difficult, providing an enjoyable ride to Greers Ferry Lake
At the junction with AR 16, you are in the Greers Ferry Lake resort area. The two highways cross the lake at a spot aptly named the Narrows. AR 92 continues on and loops around the impoundment to AR 5/25 and the town of Heber Springs. The ride around the lake and across the Greers Ferry Dam is through scenic woodland roads, and a stop at the dam overlook is worth the time.
US 67 is a fairly pedestrian trip back into Central Arkansas. But overall, this loop is a very enjoyable and relaxing ride, especially for those last-minute motorcycle vacation ideas
