Route Description

Take your time on one of Arkansas’s most treasured motorcycle touring routes

This is an excellent, leisurely full-day ride and will be enjoyable for both sport bike riders and cruisers alike.

AR 14 out of Mountain View might be considered the best stretch of this mountainous loop, except that it soon intersects AR 341 - Push Mountain. Push Mountain is composed of tight curves and knee-dragging stretches of pavement, as well as gorgeous scenery. AR 341 attracts sport bike riders from all over the nation.

Most road-savvy riders visiting the area will eventually find their way to AR 341. Its serpentine course winds up over the mountain and down into the White River Valley near Norfork on AR 5.

The route west on AR 5 is nice but grows more urban as it nears Mountain Home, the hub of a thriving resort and retirement area. Traffic in town is light and easily managed. After crossing Bull Shoals Dam on AR 178, the ride becomes a pleasant cruise through rural landscapes all the way to Yellville. Easy, broad sweepers make it a fun but not overly stressful ride.

The run down AR 14 south of Yellville is excellent. The curves are tight enough to be enjoyable but not overwhelming. The scenery is exceptionally lush, and the highway’s intersection with the Buffalo National River adds to its appeal. Be sure to take the short side trip on AR 268 to Buffalo Point Park. AR 14 later crosses the scenic Buffalo River. The eight-mile section of AR 14 between Harriet and the AR 263 junction is a scenic and winding ride. AR 263 and AR 66 both have gentle curves through farmland and woods.

AR 66 runs through Timbo, birthplace of folk music legend Jimmy Driftwood. This ride will definitely scratch the itch motorcyclists have for either sport riding or scenic cruising on Arkansas’s finest motorcycle touring routes.
