142 miles of the finest motorcycle roads in Arkansas
Start this ride along one of the most beautiful motorcycle roads in Arkansas on the southern outskirts of Fayetteville via AR 265 at I-540. Ride south on AR 265 through lightly populated rolling hills of farms and timber, gradually running deeper into the Ozarks forests.
Interestingly, the first community you will ride through on AR 265 is called Hogeye, appropriate since it’s just 10 miles south of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, home of the Razorbacks.
AR 170 runs south to a wonderful destination, Devil’s Den
, an exceptionally gorgeous must-see Arkansas State Park constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Many of the facilities, including the cut-rock dam, were built by the Depression-era workforce.
Traveling from Devil’s Den on AR 74 to Winslow and US Highway 71, Arkansas
shows off its curves with a wonderful serpentine 12-mile ride. The first two miles out of the park are a series of technically challenging switchbacks, and new riders should take care.
US 71 takes you over the top of the Boston Mountain range of the Ozarks. It’s a fantastic ride of winding pavement and broad sweepers. It’s two wide lanes - sometimes three - all with wide shoulders. There are some knee-dragging corners, plus the views are nothing short of spectacular.
This stretch is old US Highway 71, Arkansas travelers’ major north-south highway for years. All but local traffic now make the journey on I-540 to the west. With no semis and with very few cars traveling it, the Boston Mountain Scenic Byway
(US 71) is a great ride and one of the most popular motorcycle roads in Arkansas. The trip down into and back out of Mountainburg is the highlight, with elevation changes of over 1,300 feet.
AR 59 north - not US 59 over in Oklahoma - takes you back toward Fayetteville. It runs through mostly farmland, with a nice stretch of woods north of Natural Dam, Arkansas
. The unique rock formation there is a worthwhile interruption.
Take AR 45 to US 62 E. to Fayetteville and enjoy a nice evening out after a day of exciting motorcycling.
