The city is a short drive from Petit Jean
Mountain, home of Arkansas’s flagship state park. Petit Jean State Park is best
known for scenic vistas overlooking the Arkansas River Valley, hiking trails,
Civilian Conservation Corp architecture, and unique geologic features. Also on
the mountain is the Museum of Automobiles, showcasing 50 vintage vehicles from
1904 to 1967, and Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, a top notch destination for
Outdoor opportunities abound in the area.
Popular with anglers is Lake Overcup, an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission
property known as one of Arkansas’s crappie hot spots. Two

Prior to the establishment of Morrilton,
the town was known as Lewisburg. Built on the banks of the Arkansas River, the
Butterfield Overland Mail Company ran through the town on its Memphis-to-Fort
